A fourth well will be drilled in Kish gas field to acquire more reliable information on the in-place gas reserves of the field. Development plan of Kish gas field as the largest independent gas field in Iran has been divided to three phases of which development of its first phase is under way for production of 1 bcf of gas per day. Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC) which is in charge of development of Kish gas field, has placed drilling a new well on the agenda to get accurate information about the status of its reserves. According to Saeed Rajabzadeh, a PEDEC official, drilling Well 4 will complete technical information related to exact level of gas in the reservoir, the dimensions of the field and the thickness of the hydrocarbon reserves. According to PEDEC’s survey, so far results has shown that the gas field could be developed in three phases each with production capacity of 1 bcm/d and drilling the fourth well will show the possibility of rising the number of phases. Drilling Well 2 by National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) in 2005 showed that in place gas reserves of the field stands at 48 tcf but next drilling Well 3 raised the prospect of proven gas reserves to 60 tcf, equivalent to six phases of the South Pars gas field. According to PEDEC, development of the second and third phase of the gas field will be awarded to a domestic company. The company reported of completion of studies related to MDP, on surface and under surface installation while environmental studies and infrastructural works are nearing completion. Development plan of Kish gas field aims at transferring the produced gas to a gas processing plant in Garzeh region through subterranean and seabed pipelines for sweetening, either for export or domestic consumption.
