Germany sold Syria around 360 tons of chemicals that could be used in the production of poisonous gases, the German government admitted Monday. The German Ministry of Economics released a statement today and said that German suppliers have exported the chemicals for civilian and military purposes between 1998 and 2011, just before the Syrian revolution. The amount revealed by the Ministry was three times more than what was known before. The government said earlier this month that Germany exported some 134 tons of these chemicals, from 2002 to 2006. UN inspectors confirmed the use of chemical weapons in Syria and said that rockets which contained Sarin nerve gas were used in an attack on August 21.
