Ukraine is anticipating a substantial discount on Russian gas imports, First Deputy Prime Minister Andriy Klyuyev said Friday. "I assure you that the price of Russian gas will be lowered after gas talks with Moscow are completed," he said during a speech in the parliament. Final arrangements will be finally reached before the end of this month, he said. Ukraine currently imports Russian gas at a price of around 414 U.S. dollars per 1,000 cubic meters under gas contracts signed in 2009. However, Ukraine seeks to review the document, claiming the price formula is unfair. Russia generated the gas price in adjustments for global oil prices, which have risen strongly since 2009.
