House speaker attends PA-UfM meetings in Italy Friday

House of Representatives Speaker Ali Abdel Aal is scheduled to attend meetings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), which will kick off Friday in Italy.

The two-day meetings will be held at the headquarters of the Italian Chamber of Deputies.

Egypt's participation in the PA-UfM meetings will have a positive impact on the course of relations between Egypt and Italy which have deteriorated following the murder of Italian student Giulio Regeni in Cairo, the Egyptian House of Representatives said in a statement.

Italy is set to hand over the presidency of PA-UfM to Egypt following the meetings, the statement added. 

After concluding his visit to Italy, Abdel Aal will lead Egypt's delegation to 135th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, which will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on October 23-27.

The gathering will discuss the role of parliaments in addressing human rights issues and preventing interference in the domestic affairs of countries.
