Alitalia suspends flights to Libya

Italy's carrier Alitalia has suspended flights between Rome and Libya's capital Tripoli between February 15-17, a period marking the second anniversary of the popular uprising that forced longtime ruler Muammar Gaddadi from power. The suspension comes as a precautionary measure amid unstable security situation in the country, according to Aki News Agency. Italy closed its consulate in Benghazi in January and withdrew staff after gunmen opened fire on the car of the Italian Consul General Guido de Sanctis, who escaped the ambush unharmed.
