The Cairo/Alexandria agricultural road was re-opened on Sunday after experts managed to repair an inclination in the structure of a pedestrian bridge, Refaat Hatata, the adviser to the transport minister, said.
An overloaded trailer rammed into the bridge earlier in the day, causing a crack and inclination in the steel structure of the bridge.
Following the incident, the road was closed in both directions and all cars were diverted to sub roads.
Emergency teams from the Roads Authority were called in and a state of emergency was announced at the ministry's crisis management room, he added.
This is the second incident of its kind to be reported today after a speedy truck caused a partial collapse in a pedestrian bridge on the agricultural road in Qalyoub earlier in the day.
