The Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, one of the ten largest hotel companies of the world, is a global partner of World Clean Up 2012, a campaign which aims to clean up illegal stray garbage in 100 countries and raise people’s awareness. World Clean Up 2012 officially kicks off on March 24, and will sweep over the globe until September 25. Carlson Rezidor is the only global partner of World Clean Up 2012 within the hospitality industry. “Doing business in a responsible and sustainable way is of highest importance to our group. Rezidor’s ambitious and company-wide Responsible Business programme dates back to 1989 and has been developed further ever since. World Clean Up is a fantastic initiative which is also supported by many national governments and European Parliament members, and will complement our Responsible Business activities 2012”, said Inge Huijbrechts, Director Responsible Business. Carlson Rezidor already hosted the international World Clean Up conference 2012 that took place in January at the Radisson Blu Olympia Hotel in Tallinn (Estonia). Between March and September, the group’s hotels will organize clean up actions across Europe, the Middle East and Africa; the Americas and Asia; and celebrate the end of World Clean Up 2012 in September, Carlson Rezidor’s traditional Responsible Business Action Month. World Clean Up started as a national clean up day in Estonia in 2008 with 50,000 people joining. The campaign is fully organized and carried out by volunteers – people mobilizing people to share ideas, knowledge and experience, to create networks and to make the world a cleaner place. “This is not just about the nature-lovers, it’s about everyone waking up to the reality that garbage is the largest mistreated resource in the world”, said Rainer Nolvak, one of the action initiators.
