Egyptian national airlines EgyptAir cancelled Friday two flights to and from Tunisia due to the strike of Tunis Airport over the recent assassination of senior opposition leader Chokri Belaid, official news agency MENA reported. TunisAir along with some other foreign airlines, including domestic and international routes, have been suspended Friday following the general strike organized by the country's main labor union UGTT. Belaid, a leftist sharp critic of Tunisian ruling Islamist Ennahdha party, was shot dead Wednesday outside his house, which triggered a wave of public anger and nationwide protests ever since. Tens of thousands of Tunisians took to the streets Friday in a mass funeral procession for the slain opposition leader.
