Hainan Airlines has launched a new service connecting Guangzhou with Guilin, the popular tourist destination in southern China. The new route, which commenced on 25 September 2013, will be operated daily using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Flights will leave Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport at 2200, arriving at Guilin’s Liangjiang International Airport an hour later at 2300. The return flight departs Guilin at 2355 and gets back into Guangzhou at 0100 the next day. Previously, only China Southern Airlines operated this route, but the timing of the launch is key, as it comes ahead of China’s Golden Week holidays, during which time Guilin, with its dramatic limestone karsts, is expected to welcome a huge number of tourists. In addition to the new Guilin flights, Hainan Airlines is adding more flights to several other destinations from Guangzhou, including Haikou, Sanya and Tianjin, during the peak 29 September-9 October holiday period.
