Hyatt's bolstering its presence in its hometown of Chicago. The 417-room Wyndham Chicago Hotel (633 N. St. Clair) will soon undergo a major renovation and will reopen as a Hyatt. It will be called the Hyatt Chicago Magnificent Mile. The news comes on the same day that we learned that the Affinia Chicago will also get a new name following a sale, indicating renewed interest in the Chicago hotel market. As for the soon-to-be-named Hyatt, the hotel revamp plan follows the hotel's purchase by Sunstone Hotel Investors, which paid $88.4 million, the Chicago Sun-Times says. The new name will become official on June 1. The hotel will get a $25 million renovation, which should give it a new lobby, newly redone guest rooms and other updates. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter and to be followed by a $25 million renovation, partly funded by Hyatt. Hyatt also has the posh Park Hyatt Chicago (800 North Michigan Ave.), which is on Water Tower Square and features the chic, 7th-floor Nomi restaurant and area. OPEN SESAME: Park Hyatt Chicago elevators open as if by magic It also runs the Hyatt Regency Chicago and the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, both convention-oriented properties, the Sun-Times notes. Readers: If you know the Wyndham property, what changes do you hope Sunstone makes to it during the renovation?
