
The number of foreigners who stayed overnight in Icelandic hotels registered a year-on-year increase of 20 percent in June, official figures showed on Friday.
According to statistics issued by Statistics Iceland, the number of people who paid for accommodations in Icelandic hotels rose to 285,100 in June, a 19 percent increase from the figure of June 2014.
Meanwhile, foreign tourists accounted for 90 percent of the people who stayed in Icelandic hotels in June, up 20 percent compared with the figure in June 2014. The number of Icelandic citizens staying overnight in hotels increased 10 percent over the same period.
Foreigners who stayed overnight in Iceland in June were mostly residents from Germany, the United States and Britain.
In the last 12 months, from July 2014 until June 2015, overnight stays in hotels were 2,508,841 which is an increase of around 15 percent compared with the same period in the previous year.
