The Indian navy was searching Friday for four sailors who went missing after a military ship sank off the country's east coast, dpa reported.
One sailor died and 23 were rescued after a torpedo recovery vessel sank Thursday night 35 nautical miles south of Vishakhapatnam harbour during an exercise to find torpedos fired by other ships and submarines.
There were 28 personnel on board. "An officer and three sailors are still missing," navy spokesman captain DK Sharma said.
Nine ships and several aircraft have been deployed to help find the sailors, he said.
Sharma said it appeared the accident was caused by flooding of the engine room after waterproof seals malfunctioned. A formal investigation has been launched.
