Lucky Air, the Kunming-based subsidiary of Hainan Airlines, has announced plans to launch a base at Chengdu’s Shuangliu International Airport.
Currently, the airline offers flights to Chengdu from Lijiang, Jiuzhai, Kunming and Tengchong. But with the launch of its Chengdu base, the carrier plans to expand its network from the Sichuan capital.
By 2018, Lucky Air intends to deploy up to 15 aircraft to the airport, providing 630 weekly flights to destinations including Xi’an, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Sanya, Lhasa, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Urumqi.
In addition, the carrier plans to launch international operations from Chengdu, to complement its existing overseas services from Kunming to Southeast Asia, Japan and Korea.
Lucky Air will become the sixth airline based at the rapidly expanding Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, following Air China, Sichuan Airlines, Chengdu Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, and Tibet Airlines.
