More than one million Americans gathered at Times Square to ring in 2015 amid tight security.
Police was on boots in anticipation of any acts of violence especially after two policemen were killed in an armed attack last week.
Revelers packed the square to see the giant ball drop, a tradition that dates to 1907, with an estimated 1 billion people around the globe expected to see it live or on video.
