The passenger traffic of August over Abu Dhabi international airport recorded the highest in one month in the airport's history, local media said on Sunday.
According to the monthly report of the UAE's state news agency WAM, over 2.25 million travelers passed through the Gulf state's capital hub in August, compared with 1.92 million the same period in 2014.
"For the second time ever, we witnessed over two million passengers traveling through AUH in a single month," said Chief Operations Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports Ahmad Al Haddabi.
The spike in traffic was attributed to many residents returning from vacations before the beginning of school year, he added.
Abu Dhabi is also increasingly seen as a preferred tourism and business destination, al Haddabi said.
