Ruthin Castle, the privately owned castle hotel in North Wales which is steeped in medieval and romantic history, announces the opening of its exciting and pioneering new spa, The Moat in July 2012. The location will feature a number of wellbeing innovations including the UK’s first outdoor log-fired Sauna Tent. In the same way that Ruthin Castle is no ordinary hotel, The Moat is no ordinary spa. The Moat rests in the rustic woodlands of this ancient castle’s moat and represents a new concept in luxury social spa experiences incorporating indoor and outdoor space including a sauna tent pitched in the middle of the castle moat. This very special spa draws heavily on its majestic North Wales setting in both its design and use of quality local products in the treatments. It is further influenced by a wide range of cultures from around the globe producing a wellbeing experience which is simply unforgettable. At The Moat visitors will find a world of extremes: Outdoors: The Moat will offer a range of spa facilities enabling guests to enjoy the fresh air and natural beauty whatever the weather. This comprises a steaming Dutch hot tub with sense-tingling seaweed and herbs, a cooling spring water shower fed by the Clwydian mountain tops, a fire pit for BBQs and spit roasts and cosy cocoons swinging from the trees where guests can while away the hours. Indoors: The Moat will offer a series of spring water and mineral rich filled hot tubs of varying temperatures, thermal rooms and a mud bath using mineral rich mud. In addition there will be five treatment rooms including a VIP couple’s room with copper bath and private steam room, a Moët in the Moat champagne nail bar and relaxation room complete with king-size loungers. Other facilities include a gym with equipment from some of the best suppliers in the world, fitness studio and ‘snug’ for light refreshments. Treatments are delivered using products exclusively made for The Moat, all of which comprise local Welsh ingredients known for their therapeutic qualities such as Anglesey sea salts, seaweed, herbs and sweet honey sourced from within a 5 mile radius of the castle. Therapies range from oxygenating ginger wraps and Argan Oil and green tea body polish scrubs to The Moat hot stone massage and gold luxury facials. All one hour treatments include a welcome slipper ceremony which is based on traditional royal customs. The Moat will also serve a choice of tasty freshly-made food which guests can enjoy while they relax wrapped up in a warm rug after a soak or treatment. At times, there is even the chance for them to test their own culinary skills using the outdoor fire pit or BBQ.
