Foreign tourists spent 4 billion euros in Spain in April, 4.3% less than in the same month in 2011. This result is the first decrease after 13 months of growth. It was caused by a lower number of tourists in April (-1.7%), combined with a shorter periods these tourists stayed in the country. The figures emerged from the report on tourism, Egatur, released today by the ministry of industry, energy and tourism. Despite the slowdown in April, foreign tourists spent 3.5% more in the first three months of the year in Spain than in the same period in 2011, over 13 billion euros. In the first four months of this year, the average sum that was spent daily by tourists was 108 euros, 13.5% more than in the year before. The main contribution to this spending rise came from German tourists, followed by visitors from the north of Europe and French tourists.(ANSAmed).
