Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly and Chairman of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) Marzouq al Ghanim left Cairo on Saturday returning home after a three-day visit to Egypt where he met with Arab League Secretary General Nabil el Araby and other senior officials.
During the visit, Ghanim asserted that the AIPU is keen on resuming efforts to bring back Egypt’s membership in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to restore its major parliamentary role in the Arab world, regionally and internationally.
After his meeting with Araby, Ghanim said that a request will be referred to the IPU after the election of an Egyptian parliament speaker on January 10.
Ghanim termed his meeting with Araby as fruitful as they discussed cooperation between the AIPU and the AL regarding several regional issues.
