Loei province opens its winter tourism season with the introduction of two new festivals to attract more tourists through to January 2013. The Tourism Authority of Thailand Loei office promotes its latest campaign under the theme Nhao Nee Jai Diew Tiew Mueang Loei (Let’s go Loei this winter) with two recently introduced festivals namely the Poinsettia Phu Rua Festival and the Mask Festival from 24 November 2012 to 31 January 2013. These two new festivals are additions to the well-known festival Phu Rua Flowers Festival that runs from 29 December to 2 January. The Poinsettia Phu Rua Festival targets Thai and international tourists from 24 November to 31 January 2013 at the Phu Rua National Park. It will focus on a poinsettia garden with music performances and fun activities with famous TV and movie stars on the opening day 24 November. The Mask Festival will run from 30 December to 1 January at the Loei Provincial Stadium in front of Loei Municipality. The event will entertain tourists who visit Dan Sai and Chiang Khan districts, but usually skip a stop in Loei town. To get them to visit the town centre, the festival will exhibit colourful Phi Ta Khon masks from Dan Sai and Phi Khon Nham from Na Sao sub-district, Chiang Khan district in Loei province while displaying masks from around the world. The event will also feature festivities with music and local cultural performances. TAT’s new director based in Loei, Yupa Panrod, said other activities such as a craft festivals and the Chiang Khan International Film Festival 2012, 25 to 31 December are being planned.
