Thai AirAsia announced, Friday, a new service to Xi’an, its third destination in China after Chongqing and Wuhan. The carrier will commence a daily service to Xi’an 16 November following the launch of a daily service to Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province in central China 19 October. Thai AirAsia will be the only carrier operating a schedule service on the Bangkok-Xi’an route. Bangkok Airways used to operate the route, but halted services in October 2009 along with services to Ho Chi Minh City and Hiroshima due to soaring fuel costs. Thai AirAsia CEO, Tassapon Bijleveld said: “Thai AirAsia is very excited to launch our third new route in China this year. After the recent announcement of Bangkok-Wuhan, there has been positive feedback and demand for connectivity to China.” To introduce the new service, the carrier will sell a one-way promotional fare at Bt1,850, inclusive of taxes and surcharges from 21 to 24 September for travel during 16 November to 30 September 2013. The Xi’an-bound flight will depart Bangkok at 0930 and land at 1435. The Bangkok-bound flight will depart at 1525 and arrive at 1840. Xi’an is a historical city in northwest China, famous for the Terracotta Warriors of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, an awe inspiring collection of over 7,000 life-sized warriors, war horses and chariots buried in an over 25,000 square meter section of the monarch’s mausoleum, which have been proclaimed as the 8th Wonder of the World.
