Turkey's national air carrier, Turkish Airlines (THY), has launched flights from Istanbul to Salzburg five times per week as of November 8. It will also fly to Salzburg everyday during summer season, THY Salzburg Office Manager Murat Baydar said. Underlining that Salzburg, the birthplace of classical composer Mozart, is an important destination for tourism, Baydar said tourists mostly come to Salzburg when the Mozart Festival begins. Baydar said while many tourists from the Middle East visit Salzburg during spring and summer, tourists from Russia and continental Europe prefer to visit Salzburg during winter because of skiing. Emphasizing that passenger rates from Turkey increases during school breaks, Baydar said introducing Salzburg as a new destination and its ski centers to Turkey will attract more passengers.
