Making it to the North Pole, Egyptian mountaineer Omar Samra has contributed to improving the image of tourist sites in Egypt, the Tourism Ministry said on Friday.
Samra successfully reached the North Pole on Tuesday and raised Egypt's flag there.
"I've successfully reached the North Pole at 5 a.m. on the 21st of April thereby completing a 20 year long journey since the day I dreamed of climbing Mount Everest, becoming the first Egyptian and one of 40 people in history to complete the Explorer’s Grand Slam which is the challenge of climbing the highest mountain on every continent, the 7 Summits, and skiing to both the South and North pole," Samra said on his facebook account.
Samra is the first Egyptian and youngest Arab to climb Mount Everest. He reached the summit at 9:49 am Nepal time on 17 May 2007.
He was born in 1978.
