Rain, snow and wind greeted holiday week travelers in both the Northeastern and Northwestern United States Wednesday, weather forecasters said. One day before Thanksgiving, snow clogged roads across upstate New York and northern New England while rain fell across southern New England and the mid-Atlantic coast, Accuweather.com reported. Isolated thunderstorms were expected to reduce visibility for motorists and trigger minor flight delays in the Southeast. In the Northwest, drenching rain, mountain snow and high winds were forecast for travel along with the danger of avalanches in the Cascade and Olympic mountains. The Midwest was expected to escape the nasty weather but rain Tuesday turned roads and sidewalks icy overnight, creating treacherous conditions early Wednesday morning. The day began with patchy dense fog from Texas to Minnesota and Wisconsin, creating poor visibility on the heaviest travel day of the year.
