Turkey will be chairing the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) General Assembly and Coordination meetings. In a statement, Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Turkey reminded that when Turkey joined the Eurocontrol in 1989 there were 39 members and since 2010 Turkey has been holding one of the vice presidencies of the Provisional Council (PC) which manages Eurocontrol. Because of the President of the current PC French Directorate General for Civil Aviation is candidate for the Eurocontrol Directorate General, until the election period ends they decided that four of the PC vice presidents will lead presidency. In its meetings on May 9 &10, PC made decisions about the Eurocontrol's future where Turkey was represented by a group of attendants from Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkish Civil Aviation, General Directorate of State Airports Operations and EU's and NATO's permanent representatives in Brussels. In the statement, until the election process of Eurocontrol Directorate General concludes, Turkey will preside the Eurocontrol's General Assembly and Coordination meetings.
