The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) announced on Tuesday that it would adopt the Jordanian National Railway Network Project as one of the UfM's regional projects. In a UfM senior officials meeting held Tuesday in Barcelona, under a joint Jordanian-European co-presidency, the project received support from all participating Arab and European states. The Jordanian National Railway Network Project was the only project adopted out of three that were presented by the union's secretariat general. The UfM will now promote the project to secure financing from European and International financial institutions and banks. Once the project is completed, officials said, it will boost Jordan's economy and increase the movement of passengers and goods through Jordanian territories, while encouraging exports, industrial and agricultural production, as well as mining. The project is part of a network that will connect the Middle East with Europe and later continue to North Africa and the Arab Gulf.
