Um al-Toyour is a magnificent tourist village to the north of Lattakia city which enjoys a charming and clean sandy shore surrounded by mountains from all the sides. The beach near the village is sandy followed by a rocky one with rock bursts till Ras al-Basyit, and that is why it is one of the most important tourist destinations visited by people from most of the Syrian provinces and from all the countries of the world. The area embraces rare plant species distinguishing the deteriorating forest of the Mediterranean Sea, and the beach near the village is calm and safe surrounded by virgin nature, and the water is very pure. Insects don't spread near the beach in comparison with other beaches as it is situated between two huge mountains which give a very small space for the tide at the beach. "The name of the village Um al-Toyour which means Birds' Mother comes from the fact that the migratory birds heading for Europe usually descend on its beaches," said Mayor of al-Esawieh, Maher Sheikh Ibrahim. He indicated that the area was also called 'Tranjeh' which is the name of one of well-known birds in Syria. A large number of Al-Tranjan birds, which are popular greenish birds with a small size, live in Um al-Toyour. Um al-Toyour is also an environmental, beach and forest reserve which embraces a various species of the migratory birds while the forest trees expand over a large area in the village such as the trees of wild olive and terebinth.
