Hamas warns of repercussions from failed Palestinian unity

Hemdan hopes reconciliation will be achieved this year Gaza – Mohammed Habib Hamas member Osama Hemdan has warned of the repercussions of a collapse in inter-factional negotiations between Fatah and Hamas, aimed at achieving Palestinian national reconciliation .
Reconciliation had been one of the significant developments in Palestinian politics in 2012, Hemdan said, in a newly published document, “Hamas’ vision on the developments of the Palestinian issue.”
The document, seen by Arabstoday, acknowledged the “challenges” facing ongoing unity talks, including security coordination between Israel and the Fatah-controlled Palestinian Authority as well as slated restructuring of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO).
“The failure of Palestinian reconciliation could harm the Palestinian cause and its national project,” Hemdan claimed.
The Hamas official expressed hopes that unity would be achieved by the end of 2013.
Hemdan meanwhile renewed threats against Israel, claiming the November conflict in the Gaza Strip had proved the Palestinian resistance’s ability to respond to Israeli attacks.
“The Palestinians can hit Tel Aviv and Jerusalem with their rockets,” he claimed.
