Syrian refugees flee into Lebanon ahead of possible strikes
Beirut – Riad Shouman
Thousands of Syrians have fled for safety into neighbouring Lebanon, following threats by the United States and its allies in Europe of possible military strikes against pro-government
bases belonging to President Bashar Al Assad.
Western nations said the Assad-regime had ‘crossed a red line’, and accuse it of launching a chemical weapons attack last week in the capital Damascus, which killed hundreds of civilians and injured thousands.
Lebanon’s Supreme Defence Council said it is taking precautionary measures to contain the influx of refugees into the country. It warned against the exacerbation of its own security problems with.
Lebanese security forces said many refugees are using false documents to enter the country, especially for women and children.
