President Hadi is working to annihilate extremism in Yemen
Yemen's President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi has reiterated that the country will continue its battle in combating terrorism in the coming period.
The statement follows the arrest of four al-Qaeda members
after security forces discovered a terrorist cell in the country's capital Sanaa.
Hadi is hoping to bring an end to the violence in the country, adding that Yemen needs more investments to improve its economic conditions.
He stressed the need for cooperation with the international community to pave way for job opportunities. The Yemeni president believes this will resolve the problem of extremist groups employing Yemeni citizens.
Meanwhile, Yemeni air force confirmed on Sunday that President Hadi fired a number of its leaders, employing others in their place. The dismissal was a result of a recent increase of fighter pilot crashes in the country. Hadi stated that the air force contained "bad elements" that will destroy the armed forces by eliminating its unity. He also demanded a detailed report about the causes of fighter planes. The president denied that his decision was a political one, and stated that the only criteria in which new employees were chosen was efficiency.
Furthermore, Yemeni Prime Minister, Mohamed Salem Basendwah, returned to Sanaa after a month long absence. Rumours of Basendwah’s dismissal have circulated amid accusations of the inability of the government to meet security requirements of Yemen. However, it was revealed that the PM has been undergoing surgery in Jordan for prostate cancer.
In conjunction with Basendwahs’s return to Yemen, tribal insurgents attacked the main power transmission lines in Marib, causing power problems in the capital Sanaa and other cities.
Government authorities confirmed that two attacks on transmission lines within 12 hours left Sanaa without power.
