UEFA U-21 Championship begins in Israel on June 5
Young members of Egypt's al-Wasat Party have urged Arab states to boycott next month's UEFA U-21 Championship in Israel, describing the European football governing body's
decision to award Israel the tournament a "reward for its crimes."
Egyptian youth lobbied the Arab League to advise Arab television channels, newspapers and websites to refrain from providing any coverage of the championship.
The party members also called on Arab Youth and Sports Ministers Council to issue a statement condemning UEFA for allowing Israel to host the competition on occupied territories.
In a press statement, Wasat youth told fellow Egyptians to write to UEFA, its president Michel Platini, and the European Union to complain about the tournament.
The statement added that Israel should be treated as "a racist entity" that should be punished with sanctions, instead of being rewarded for its "ethnic cleansing and occupation."
