Diaa Al-Sayed was speaking as a football pundit on Egyptian television
Egypt's assistant coach Diaa Al-Sayed has heaped praised on Al-Ahly defender Wael Gomaa after his commanding display in the side's 2-1 victory over Sanfrecce Hiroshima in the Club World Cup.
Al-Sayed was a pundit on Egyptian television for Al-Ahly's quarter-final match on Sunday. After the game, he said: "Gomaa is a key player in Egypt and Ahly squad as he has a high level of fitness. He saved Ahly's defence throughout the game and did his best to stop the Japanese attackers."
Substitute Mohamed Aboutrika scored the winning goal at the Toyota stadium, a win which means the Cairo team will now face Brazilian outfit Corinthians in the first semi-final on Wednesday.
Al-Sayed backed Ahly to return victorious from Japan and thinks a victory will help the national team too. "I hope Ahly will snatch the Club World Cup title as it will support the national team that has a lot of players from the Ahly squad."
Wael Gomaa, 37, is a senior player in the Al-Ahly team and has made over 100 appearances for the Egyptian national team.
