AIBA officials are excited about hosting the tournament in Qata
Qatar will host the 2015 world boxing championships, beating a bid from Bangkok.
C.K. Wu, the president of governing body AIBA,
was quoted by AP as saying: "It is very exciting for AIBA to explore new horizons and we are looking forward to visit Doha in 2015."
Wednesday’s decision was made by AIBA’s executive committee at a meeting in Jeju, South Korea.
It is the first time an Arab country will be hosting the amateur boxing tournament, with Qatar having proven itself capable of hosting top sporting events in the past.
The Arab country hosts the Athletics World Diamond League meeting annually, along with the World Championship of Super Globe ever year. The first major sporting event held in Doha, the Asian Games in 2006, put the Emirati state firmly on the world sports man.
On Tuesday, Qatar Boxing Federation chief Yousuf al-Kazim led a delegation to Jeju to present Doha's bid for the 2015 event.
