The underwater construction surfaces in the event of a storm
Abu Dhabi – Jamal Al Majaida
Dubai is witnessing the start of construction of the biggest underwater hotel this week, with rooms designed like submarines to allow guests the chance to see an unparalleled and normally
out-of-view perspective of the Gulf. The hotel, the first of its kind in Dubai, will be built by Polish company Deep Ocean Technology [DOT], and will feature an underwater section consisting of 21 luxury rooms, a dive centre and a bar up to 10 metres below the ocean’s surface.
A unique lighting system will illuminate the marine scenes directly outside the submerged rooms’ windows while macro photography will also allows guests to zoom into their surroundings for a better view. With the above-water portions of the hotel suspended high enough to avoid tsunamis and flooding, the underwater disc is engineered to surface in the event of a storm or natural disaster.
Previous underwater guesthouses, in the US and the Maldives, will reportedly be dwarfed by the DOT development.
