Arab League (AL) chief Ahmed Abul Gheit paid Wednesday a visit to the Zaatari Refugee Camp along the Syrian-Jordanian borders.
Abul Gheit inspected the camp, which hosts around 80,000 Syrian refugees and was briefed on conditions of refugees by Jordanian officials and efforts exerted to offer them a decent life, Arab League spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said.
The AL chief said he got familiar with the hardships the Jordanian authorities faced to cope with the increasing flow of refugees into Jordan, which now hosts 1.5 million refugees, most of whom living outside refugee camps.
Abul Gheit called on the Arab states and donor institutions to follow in the footsteps of Jordan, which bears the brunt of such refugees influx.
