
Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs and International Security Hisham Badr welcomed the resolution ratified by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and submitted by Austria to push forward nuclear disarmament negotiations.
The resolution reflects the determination of the majority of the member countries to adopt practical steps so as to reach a world free from nuclear weapons.
In statements on Monday, Badr highlighted the importance of the resolution which stipulates holding a conference for the UNGA in New York to reach a legal mechanism to curb nuclear disarmament and press on the nuclear countries to abide by the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
He further expressed his sorrow for voting against the draft resolution by some non-nuclear countries, noting that the resolution contributes to enhancing international peace and security.
