
Wojciech Jaruzelski, former President of Poland, died at the age of 90 in Warsaw after a long illness. "Jaruzelski had served as Poland's president, first secretary of the Polish United Workers' Party Central Committee, and prime minister, during the period of 1981-1990," Xinhua reported. In December 2010, Jaruzelski suffered from severe pneumonia, and in March 2011, he was diagnosed with lymphoma. In April 2014 he was brought to hospital in Warsaw after suffering from circulatory problems and had a stroke a few weeks before his death on Sunday.
