Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Najaf Sunday night as part of a regional tour that took him to Kuwait and Qatar.
Zarif arrived from Doha and is set to travel to Baghdad Monday to meet with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al Jaafari.
The two top diplomats will later hold a press conference.
Zarif is also scheduled to meet with Iraqi President Fouad Massoum and Prime Minister Haidar al Abadi, as well as parliament speaker Selim al Jabouri.
Talks will take up means of boosting bilateral relations, as well as the war on the terrorist Daesh group.
Zarif will also discuss with the Iraqi officials regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The recent nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers will also figure high at the talks.
Talking to reporters after his meeting with Qatari Foreign Minister Khaled bin Mohamed al Attiya, Zarif had urged all countries in the region to contribute to fighting terrorism, extremism and sectarianism.
