Madagascar's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Atallah Beatrice, confirmed on Tuesday that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon would visit the island country.
"The arrival of Ban Ki-moon is not only confirmed but official. He will visit Madagascar on May 10 and 11, 2016," Beatrice told reporters.
Beatrice revealed that President Hery Rajaonarimampianina had invited Ban to visit Madagascar, and described his upcoming visit as "a victory of the Malagasy people after the true return of Madagascar in the concert of nations preceded by its return to constitutional order".
"The international community scrupulously scrutinized efforts of Malagasy people for political stability, as well as various milestones in the establishment of institutions of the republic," the minister said.
