
Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, took a tour on Monday of the Italian aircraft carrier, the MM Cavour, which is currently berthed at Mina Zayed as part of its maiden call to participate in the U.A.E. celebrations of the 42nd National Day and the winning bid to host EXPO 2020. Sheikh Nahyan was received by the ship's Commanding Officer, Captain Fransisco Millazo, Rear Admiral Paolo Treu, Commander of the 30th Italian Naval Group and the Italian Ambassador to the U.A.E., Giorgio Starace. Sheikh Nahyan also toured an arts exhibition held on board the aircraft carrier, showing works by Italian artists on the development and progress of the U.A.E., including a large portrait of the U.A.E. founder, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Also on display is a collection of automobiles and other Italian products. The Cavour is the newest flagship aircraft carrier of the Italian Navy. She is named after the Italian statesman and politician, Camillo Benso, Conte di Cavour. The ship is designed to combine fixed wing V/STOL and helicopter air operations, command and control operations and the transport of military or civil personnel and heavy vehicles.
