Pope Francis met with ambassadors of countries to the Vatican.
In his meeting with Egypt's Hatem Seif el Nasr, Pope Francis congratulated Egypt on the election of its new parliament, which restored legislative life to the Arab country, a statement by the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.
Seif el Nasr said Egypt greatly appreciates the pope and is looking forward to having him respond to an invitation by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to visit Egypt.
Pope Francis mentioned Egypt by the name in his annual speech to heads of diplomatic missions, noting that Egypt had been a safe haven to the holy family.
