An official visit of Saudi Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al Jubeir to Pakistan has been postponed, Geo News quoted a statement by the Pakistani Foreign Office as saying Sunday, hours before the Saudi minister was due to arrive in Islamabad.
Jubeir was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad today on a two-day official visit, where he was expected to hold talks with the Pakistani leadership on different aspects of bilateral relations, along with regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The announcement of the visit's postponement came amid a rise in tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran, after Iranian protesters ransacked the Saudi Embassy in Tehran and Riyadh ordered the Iranian ambassador to leave the Kingdom within 24 hours.
Diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran – Pakistan's neighbor to the west – took a turn for the worse on Sunday as Iranian protesters reacted with fury to Riyadh's execution of prominent cleric Sheikh Nimr al Nimr earlier this week.
