
H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on Sunday attended a lecture entitled, "Poetry Power".
The lecture, held in Al Qasimia University, was delivered by Professor Mohammad Abdul Muttalib, who was awarded The King Faisal International Prize for Arabic Language and Literature.
Professor Muttalib expressed his happiness at being in the Emirate of Sharjah, which he decided would be his first step after winning the prize in recognition of the cultural efforts exerted by Dr. Sheikh Sultan across the Arab world to support Arab culture. He also highlighted the Sharjah Ruler's initiative to establish 1,000 Houses of Poetry in various Arab countries to support Arab poetry and poets.
He discussed a number of topics related to challenges addressing Arab poetry and explained some poetic aspects.
H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan honoured Prof. Abdul Muttalib and Dr. Abdulaziz Alsebail, the Secretary-General of the King Faisal International Prize, KFIP,. Among those who attended the lecture was Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information, along with many others.
