
Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, and president of Al Nasr club, and Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, the president of the Jordan Football Association, on Monday topped the list of winners of the eighth Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award.
Sheikh Hamdan was named winner of the 'Sports Figure Contributed to the Enrichment of Local Sports Movement Award', while Prince Ali was named winner of the 'Sports Figure Contributed to the Enrichment of the Arab Sports Movement Award.' Cyclist Yousuf Mirza, who represented the UAE at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, was named as the Outstanding Local Athlete.
The winners were announced by Matar Al Tayer, chairman of the board of trustees of the award during a press conference.
He described the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award as a truly global award.
The awards witnessed great competition, at both the local and the Arabic levels, where 198 entries were received this year, compared to180 in the previous year, Al Tayer noted.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award is a member of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, a foundation launched in October 2015 by Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to improve the Arab world through humanitarian, developmental and community work.
