COLOGNE: H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, opened on Thursday the Sharjah Cultural Days in Cologne, Germany, in attendance of Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi and a large crowd of official and popular audience.
The month-long event is being organised by Sharjah Department of Culture and Information and features an impressive line-up of heritage, cultural, artistic and historic programmes and activities.
Cologne is the seventh German city that plays host to the Sharjah Cultural Days out of Sharjah's firm commitment to promote cross-cultural interaction, foster a culture of dialogue among nations and introduce U.A.E.'s rich culture and arts to the German people.
Upon arrival at the Van Ham Hall, Sheikh Sultan was welcomed by a number of Sharjah senior officials and a group of German officials led by Manager of Van Ham Hall Markus Eisenbeis.
Sheikh Sultan and his escorts toured historic, heritage, hand--craft, and contemporary art exhibitions and attended folklore and musical performances.
The art exhibition showcases precious works of the Arabic calligraphy and U.A.E. talented calligraphers.
Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre of Gulf Studies features 50 rare historical and geographical maps of the Arabian Gulf from Sheikh Sultan's private collection.
The exhibitions reflect the cultural scene in the U.A.E. in general and Sharjah, the Arab cultural capital for 1998 and the Islamic Cultural capital for 2014, in particular.
