US Ambassador in Cairo absent from US Independence Day celebrations

US Ambassador in Cairo Stephen Beecroft didn't attend the celebration organized by the US Embassy here on the occasion of the 240th anniversary of the US Independence Day. 

US Charge d'Affaires Thomas Goldberger has received the attendees instead of the US ambassador.

Delivering a speech at the event, Goldberger described US-Egyptian ties as strong, saying the two peoples always stay together in the times of success.

The US is keen on interacting with the Egyptian society, Goldberger asserted.

Emergency circumstances prevented the US ambassador from attending the celebration, Goldberger said.

Goldberger expressed his profound condolences to the families of the victims of the doomed Egypt Air plane.

The US ceremony was attended by Egypt's Military Production Minister Mohamed El Assar and a galaxy of senior officials and public figures as well as foreign ambassadors in Cairo.
