Turkish and American military chiefs met Sunday in capital Ankara on the day the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), dominated by PKK's Syrian wing YPG, announced an operation to drive Daesh out of its Syrian bastion Raqqa.
The US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford made a previously unannounced visit for talks with his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar, the Turkish General Staff said in statement according to the Daily Sabah on Sunday.
No details were given about the meeting between Akar and Dunford, but it comes as US-backed Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) said they had launched an operation to liberate Raqqa, despite Turkey's strong objections for the YPG-dominated group to play any further role in the country.
