There are 15 centres to treat drug addicts nationwide, said Doctor Mohamed Chekali, the assistant director in charge of the mental health at the Ministry of Heath, Population and Hospital Reform.
These centres are led by local public health institutions, Chekali told APS, underlining that some of them “have achieved important steps in the treatment of the drug addicts such as those of Ain Temouchent, El Khroub, Bousmail and Cheraga".
There are also 53 intermediary centres across the country, including 30 which are operational while the others are under construction.
About 11,000 drug addicts benefitted from rehabilitation in these centres in 2013 nationawide, he added.
People between 25 and 35 years old are the biggest drug consumers (4770 cases) followed by the category of 15-25 years old (4338 cases) then 35 years old and over (2686 cases), said Chekali.
