Ask any one - man or woman - what 'that time' of the month means and you'll hear words like avoid, detest, moody, cranky, irritable, hate; and those will be the polite people. Enough evidence to concur that menstrual cycles or periods aren't loved or appreciated. But is there any way in which women can deal with their periods in a way that doesn't involve a knife and sounding board? Dr. Sadhana Kala, Gynecologist from the Moolchand Women Hospital, lets you in on how to do just that. Here are five easy steps to deal with your periods. Healthy diet - During this period women should include lots of green leafy vegetables, seasonal fruits and also increase the intake of water and fluids in there diet. Apart from that having a glass of hot milk can also work. Avoid having spicy and oily foods which could further aggravate the problem. Avoid puffiness and bloating - It is advisable to exercise regularly, preferably in the mornings, and get eight hours of sound sleep every night. This will help keep bloating at bay, and that will help you fight most of the problems brought on by periods. Personal hygiene - Frequently change sanitary pad every 4-6 hours and wash hands before and after changing. If there is any itching, discharge or smell then immediately consult the doctor. Wash up and stay dry - Daily and frequent washing is very important as it helps stop odor and any possible chances of infection. If possible use vaginal hygienic wash solution. It is also very important to keep yourself clean and dry, and change undergarments twice or thrice a day. Comfy clothes - Wear clothes that will put your body at ease. Tight denims and fitting tops will cause discomfort. Rely on colour therapy with bright clothes that make you feel happy and positive.
