The Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries’ Ministers of Health have in their recent meeting announced the institution of an award for Media Excellence in the health sector. Jassim Ibrahim Fakhroo, director of Media and Communications at the Supreme Council for Health, said in a statement that the Gulf Excellence Award is a pioneering reward in the Middle East which aims to develop innovation and creativity of those working in health awareness and media sectors, attract government and private media institutions to participate in producing health awareness materials and highlight the efforts and initiatives of the individuals and institutions working in this area in order to promote the health of citizens and residents in the GCC region. The award will be given to the best entries in a wide range of categories: short story for children with a message on health; an essay on any health issue; a page dedicated to health matters in a daily; brochures and fliers on health aspects; and significant works in the visual and electronic media. The entries can be submitted with effect from July 29 to November 29, 2012. The overall theme for this year’s award is: “Guidance on health for a sound life and enhance and fortify the health of the Aged”. from gulf times.
