The COSAF organized at Al Shafaq Club of the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF) a seminar under the theme 'Biological Security' under the auspices of Lt.Gen Ahmed bin Harith al-Nabhani, Chief of Staff of the Sultan's Armed Forces. Brig. Rashid bin Saif al-Shaidi Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Planning delivered a speech where he pointed out the existing cooperation and coordination amongst SAF and the ministries in the Sultanate and other international organizations in the field of biological security. The Acting Director of Protection Against Mass Destruction gave a lecture on the international conventions and treaties that limit the proliferation of the biological factors in the military and civil sides as well as the achievement made in this regard on the international level. Dr. Abdullah Saleh al-Saadi, Representative of the World Health Organization in the Sultanate gave a presentation on the principles of bio safety in medical laboratories. Dr Salim bin Said al-Wahaibi, Director General of Health Affairs at the Ministry of Health gave a lecture on the criteria of biological safety and bio security. The seminar concluded with a number of working papers by experts from the Verification Research, Training and Information Centre (VERTIC) on the national implementation of the international conventions, the legal terms about biological security and measures to control and reduce the biological risk to ensure world peace. The seminar was attended by a number of commanders of SAF, RGO, ROP, other security apparatuses, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, invitees and senior officers and officers at SAF, RGO and ROP.
